Life could be this beautiful without NBC-TV in it.

With the Ron Moore mini series displaying every lifted idea known to man; from "Star Trek", "Species", "Space: Above & Beyond"...etc....etc....etc....Sci-Fi Channel did the next logical step (for them) in managing this Ron Moore disaster. They placed an order for 13 episodes based on the mini. As we all know in Hollywood however, placing an order for 13 episodes, and actually broadcasting them, ARE TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THINGS. Claiming that you are scheduled to begin filming next month, and actually filming are also, TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THINGS.
In front of everyone's eyes, and with not a guilty conscience in evidence, Universal/Sci-Fi Channel LIFTED ideas from Paramount Pictures "Star Trek" property, as well as "Species", "Space: Above & Beyond", and perhaps a little "Babylon 5" thrown in for good measure. Ronald D. Moore himself has indirectly admitted that his mini series has not one original idea in it. He has claimed that the basic infrastructure of his script was inspired by "In Harm's Way", no doubt to divert attention away from the fact that the basic infrastructure in his script is "STAR TREK" DERIVED.
Ronald D. Moore has also stated that the character of "Six" was inspired by the character of the same name in the Patrick McGoohan series "The Prisoner." (If this is the case, why does "Six" remind everyone of "Seven Of Nine" instead of the character in "The Prisoner)? No doubt to divert attention away from the fact that "Six" was actually inspired by "Seven Of Nine." Either way, Ronald D. Moore still makes himself out to be your basic PLAGIARIST working in Hollywood. Every plot device, element....etc....INSPIRED BY this & that (??) Whatever happened to good, old fashioned storytelling, where ORIGINAL IDEAS were actually thought up ? Not in Ron Moore's cranium, that's for sure!!
Paramount Pictures has remained remarkably mute on this entire issue. A FULL SCALE ASSAULT on their "Star Trek" property by Universal/Sci-Fi Channel, and not even whispers can be heard in the corporate offices of Paramount Pictures Corp. Am I missing something? Perhaps the legal defense (if there was one) "Conventions Of The Genre" saved Ron Moore's ass. Also too, it doesn't hurt having Michael Piller as your buddy, especially if he works at the USA Network also, right?
"Conventions Of The Genre" is a NASTY little legal defense, as it basically gives anyone the "ignition keys to the Ferrari" to LIFT IDEAS with RECKLESS ABANDON from any movie and tv show of their choosing. I suspect that Paramount tried to press this matter, but lost out due to our legal system being as screwed up as it is. And with the defense "Conventions Of The Genre" being as invulnerable and sweeping as it is.
We are living in a sad era in Hollywood where there is not one original idea remaining anywhere. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick are leading the pack with the most unprecedented ASSAULTS on originality and sound, copyright ownership ever witnessed in Hollywood. Let it not go unnoticed by those who love the way of how our legal system used to be.
