Life could be this beautiful without NBC-TV in it.

This isn't going to be a "bash Richard Hatch" post. Myself and everyone else who is a fan of the "REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES" owes too much to Richard Hatch for that. He got Hollywood to notice this one season show again after a quarter century, was responsible for new Galactica merchandise being made (the Realm Press comic book line, the Maximum Press comic book line, the Galactica DVD set, action figures, etc.) Richard Hatch eventually got the attention of Bryan Singer and Tom DeSanto as well, who wanted to do an ACCEPTABLE revival of the series. Unfortunately, some missteps occurred along the way as well. Richard Hatch got the attention of individuals who should have a RESTRAINING ORDER slapped on them barring any further close distance near the "Galactica" property ever again. Of course, I'm speaking of Bonnie Hammer, Ronald D. Moore, and David Eick.
Now, I don't know what the personal motivations are of Richard Hatch in endorsing Ronald D. Moore's production. I'm not going to slam Richard Hatch, but I am going to say that I think it is an error in judgement for Richard Hatch to be endorsing Moore's production. We the fans already know that Moore's production WILL NEVER REPLACE the "REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES", so we don't need Richard Hatch telling us this or demonstrating this for us by guest starring in Moore's series, and then saying:
"Moore's series will never replace the 'REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES', and just to prove it to you (fandom), I'll guest star in Moore's production and prove how harmless Moore's production is to the 'REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES.'"
A big question mark hangs over me as to Richard Hatch's involvement in Moore's series at all. Did he just need the work? Is he trying to prove to fandom the invulnerability of the "REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES" by demonstrating how his guest appearances in Moore's production will somehow do no harm? Does Hatch have inside information which proves that Moore's series will somehow lead to a continuation production?
I think ultimately, Richard Hatch had no business getting involved in Moore's production. It negated his own personal revival efforts, and in many interviews, Richard Hatch has been apologetic in having engaged in his personal revival efforts which I think is another error on his part. Ultimately, one gets multiple crossed and conflicting signals from Richard Hatch when he has tried to explain his involvement in Moore's production. The most disturbing vibe I have gotten from Richard Hatch in these interviews he gives, is that Universal Studios has every right in the world to do what they want with this property, even if it is an endless series of bad decisions. That may be true legally, but that sort of statement does nothing to try and build momentum for a possible "Galactica" continuation in the near future, does nothing to make "Galactica" fandom feel better about Moore's production, and for Richard Hatch to try and reduce his own revival efforts (which were formidable) to the actions of a naughty little boy in the eyes of Universal/Sci-Fi Channel, (as if Mr. Hatch was spoken to by Universal's legal department before he gave these interviews) makes one wonder why Mr. Hatch even bothered in the first place to try and bring back this show. Richard Hatch should be proud of what he accomplished, and everyone in fandom is proud of what he accomplished; but for Mr. Hatch to try and undermine his impressive accomplishments in interviews in order to apparently (secure employment in Moore's series) is a mode of behavior that raises serious questions about what Mr. Hatch is trying to accomplish here. Fandom is still fractured, Moore's production is still hated, and Universal is still facing the firing squad for not having revived the "REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES."
I have no doubts about the acting abilities of Richard Hatch. I know he is just as good of an actor as he has always been. Beyond acting, Richard Hatch is even too good of a person to be getting himself mixed up in Moore's production. But when one gets the impression again and again after reading a Hatch interview (what the hell is he doing getting himself mixed up with Ronald D. Moore?), you wonder if Richard Hatch fails to recognize his own abilities as a person and an actor which would put him in a better place in life far away from Ronald D. Moore if he would just see how much talent he really does have.
Richard Hatch doesn't need Ronald D. Moore or his production. And since Galactica fandom has already made up their own mind about Moore's tv series, there is nothing Richard Hatch can say or do that will somehow make Moore's production taste better for those still waiting for a revival of the "REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES." So again, the question must be asked, what is Hatch doing being mixed up in this? What does he hope to accomplish?
I'm really trying to tactful here, because I really don't have anything against Richard Hatch. But for Mr. Hatch to apparently reduce himself to a "Late Night Infomercial Spokesperson" for Moore's series, has been a painful experience on many levels. For starters, Moore's series inappropriately swiped the "Battlestar Galactica" brand name (it has nothing to do with Galactica). Secondly, if you were to remove the "Galactica" brand name, Moore's series STILL isn't that good. Fairly mundane, hokum melodrama no more memorable than "Andromeda" or "Mutant X." Thirdly, Moore's series does nothing for the future prospects of a "Galactica" continuation, which was the motivating force of Richard Hatch all along. So for Hatch to "About Face" with no explanation, even to the point of expressing GRAVE DOUBTS about a "Galactica" continuation at this point, while at the same time saying "Moore's series is great!! Watch it!!" does nothing to further along Mr. Hatch's original mission in life, nor does it sit well with "Galactica" fandom.
