Life could be this beautiful without NBC-TV in it.

The pre-production phase of Ronald D. Moore's production was obviously no more than a 20 minute meeting between Ronald D. Moore and his department heads. During those 20 minutes, Moore's crew must have outlined what they could throw together and whip up in 5 MINUTES. In the case of the WARDROBE PROBLEM plaguing Ronald D. Moore's production from DAY ONE, it was obvious this was the area given the LEAST THOUGHT TO in Moore's series.
It takes time to design IMAGINATIVE COSTUMES for a Science Fiction/Fantasy production. I would imagine it took the BRILLIANT Jean Pierre-Dorleac a good year to design his costumes for the "REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES." From designing, to selecting the appropriate fabrics, to getting everything approved by the network, and producers. Jean Pierre-Dorleac did such a BEAUTIFUL JOB designing the costumes for the "REAL 1978 GALACTICA SERIES", that not only are his costumes considered the most IMAGINATIVE COSTUMES in Science Fiction media, but his designs were noticed all over the world where he was flooded with requests for replicas of the "Galactica" costumes, requests that continue to this day.
Because NO PLANNING went into Ronald D. Moore's wardrobe, and because SOME IDIOT on his production crew decided that present day clothing from WAL-MART would be worn by his characters; the OUT OF PLACE FEELING of this PATHETIC WARDROBE in a Science Fiction/Fantasy series is WORKING AGAINST the framework in which Moore's series is supposedly set. How is the viewer supposed to believe that Moore's series takes place in outer space, when the PRESENT DAY WARDROBE of Moore's series JARS the viewer out of the illusion of some adventure taking place in deep space? This is yet another example of what I suspect, was a sufficient pre-production design and development phase in Moore's series BEING COMPROMISED for the sake of SIMPLY GETTING ON THE AIR.
Ronald D. Moore REALLY DIDN'T CARE if the format of his series LACKED A COHERENT IDENTITY. DIDN'T CARE if a present day wardrobe was in his series SUPPOSEDLY set in outer space. DIDN'T CARE if endless THEFTS from hundreds of movies and tv shows would give his series the appearance of being a "HODGE PODGED FLEA MARKET" from ENDLESS SOURCES. Ronald D. Moore wanted to get on the air.....PERIOD!!! To such an extent, that Ronald D. Moore's series has the reputation of being the MOST POORLY CONCEIVED MESS in TELEVISION HISTORY ever to get on the air. Ronald D. Moore has even outdone the NOTORIOUS "Starlost" series starring Alex Cord as being a POORLY PRODUCED MESS.
It wasn't worth Ronald D. Moore's time and trouble to get his CRAP on the air. I'm sure the merchandisers that Ronald D. Moore approached about licensing his series would tend to agree. How do you make characters (in doll form) who wear nothing more than T-SHIRTS, and THREE PIECE SUITS; into some type of DISCERNABLE fantasy action figure that the public would be willing to BUY? It would be no different from buying action figures (if they were made) of the characters from "Boston Legal", "West Wing", or "Beverly Hills 90210."
One of the CONSEQUENCES of SKIPPING a reasonable pre-production "Research & Development, Design" phase in Ronald D. Moore's series, is the INABILITY of merchandisers to create DISCERNABLE toys, dolls, and other goodies based on Moore's series. Oh, Moore has already merchandised WHAT HE CAN. The "Star Trek Clone Companion Book" called the "Battlestar Galactica Companion", maybe some novels, but THAT WOULD BE ABOUT IT. Moore's series SO LACKS a COHERENT, DISCERNABLE, and UNIQUE IDENTITY; that merchandisers would be UNWILLING to RISK manufacturing MUNDANE ITEMS based on MUNDANE CHARACTERS. Even if they did, why would the public bother buying this CRAP when they could just dig out old "Barbie & Ken" dolls and dress them in suits, t-shirts, and dresses; an ordinary wardrobe that "Barbie & Ken" dolls have had for years, just as Ronald D. Moore's characters wear?
What sort of imaginative stories can you have in an outer space/fantasy series when your characters are running around in shirts, ties, and t-shirts? Moore's series is GROUNDED and LIMITED to "Earth-esque" environments, without the FUN of alien worlds. Ronald D. Moore LIMITED HIMSELF to a "Boston Legal-esque" drama (from a wardrobe standpoint) WHICH DEFEATS THE ENTIRE PURPOSE of having set his series in outer space in the first place!!
