Life could be this beautiful without NBC-TV in it.

Most of the bad television producers in the industry work for Universal Studios/Sci-Fi Channel. David Eick is one of them. His lack of understanding of the "Battlestar Galactica" property, combined with his blatant contempt for it; made him the perfect producing partner for Ronald D. Moore. Moore and Eick together, effortlessly make BAD TELEVISION that entertains NO ONE in the viewing audience, yet ironically makes Universal executives happy as hell.
The current crop of television producers in the industry (ranging in age from 29-37) are the worst crop of producers the industry has ever seen. If you were to compare the works of Ronald D. Moore, David Eick, Michael Piiler, and Brannon Braga to one another; you would find a remarkable lack of versatility in their work. And the work of all of these producers is remarkably identical to one another in tone, style, content, and mood. Not surprising, since all of them were breast fed on "Star Trek-The Next Generation."
David Eick has done quite a bit of bashing of the "1978 Battlestar Galactica" series, which is why I have decided to finally start picking on him. Eick is one of those producers who fails to entertain an audience in anything he produces. His last gig with USA Networks for example, the "Hercules" & "Xena" TV series, points to a fundamental producing problem that David Eick has. His failure to entertain an audience with entertaining scripts, which of course points to his main shortcoming as a producer in being unable to find and hire the right scriptwriters for the job. Indeed, "Hercules" and "Xena" could have benefitted from much stronger scriptwriting. As it turned out, what David Eick delivered was typical, fairly mundane "ho-hum nonsense" that characterized the adventures of "Hercules" & "Xena." Both of these shows went straight for middle America to such an extent, all imagination was stripped out of the productions, even to the extent of having Kevin Sorbo speaking in present day Midwest dialect, and Lucy Lawless abandoning her Australian accent (which would have given her character exotic dimension), for a midwest, Tom Boy style of speaking.
David Eick has now moved on to Ronald D. Moore's "Trekkie Star: Galactica" production. A year after this production debuted, it is evident that David Eick's praises for his own work were greatly exaggerated. Like "Hercules" and "Xena", "Trekkie Star: Galactica" is fairly mundane, "ho-hum nonsense" that is indistinguishable from the CRAP his peers in the industry are also producing. "Boring, uninvolving, cliched dysfunctional nonsense" that makes love to the memory of September 11th, while unjustifiably using the "Battlestar Galactica" brand name to package and sell his HUNK OF GARBAGE to the UNINTERESTED MASSES. The only ones entertained by "Trekkie Star: Galactica" are Ronald D. Moore & David Eick, as well as the Universal executives Moore & Eick REALLY made the production for. In the private screenings at Universal Studios, this is the only place on Earth where this production is a big hit.
So, David Eick fumbles along with Ronald D. Moore on the low budget, styrofoam soundstages in Vancouver. Making forgettable television that still has not reinvented Science Fiction.
